HISTORY OF WORLD ENERGY LABS

World Energy Labs (WEL) grew out of the group of scientists that were performing Life-Cycle Diagnostics and State of Health assessment as part of the battery management programs for Li-Ion batteries in orbit on satellites. This core technology team are industry leading electrochemists with years of experience on commercial electrochemical systems – batteries, fuel cells, and sensors, as well as electrochemical materials development.

The company realized that these complex diagnostic systems, developed and used in the satellite industry could also be used for terrestrial applications, however, required a sufficiently accurate and robust hand held technology platform. This need was the ‘ignition spark' for the development of the CEL-Scan™ technology, and the Interrogator™ handheld device.

World Energy Labs now has a dedicated research facility with extensive environmental testing facilities capable of running various accelerated life tests and electrochemical characterization programs to enable rapid algorithm development. Many electrochemical systems have been characterized at this facility and custom algorithms have been coded into firmware for the Interrogator™ for a range of customers and applications. WEL also has its own firmware, software, hardware design and manufacturing groups.
