CELL-SCAN

APPLICATIONS

BACKGROUND

One of the major limiting factors of impedance spectroscopy is that it delivers a huge amount of data that is extremely difficult to interpret.

To combat this limitation, the Interrogator™ has been built with a powerful on-board dual core microprocessor that has both DSP (digital signal processing) as well as RISC capabilities to allow rapid, in-situ analysis of the test data.

To exploit this computational power, WEL has developed an analysis technique named CEL-Scan™ (Chemical Electrical Layer Scanning) to immediately analyze the results captured by the Interrogator™. During the CEL-Scan™ process, the Interrogator™ captures specific complex impedance information about the ElectroChemical cell being tested. Then using powerful noise rejection techniques to remove line noise from the received signals (a common and limiting problem with existing signal analysis techniques), the response data are analyzed using on-board programmed algorithms, producing results in seconds instead of typically days or weeks in a laboratory.

This CELScan™ technology is a proprietary analysis approach that uses broadband, swept frequency response analysis in conjunction with proprietary algorithms and advanced calibration techniques to accurately measure both the electrical and chemical (ElectroChemical) state of the systems under test and to relate these to real world results.

CELScan™ algorithms are developed at the World Energy Labs Research Facility where large amounts of data are generated on many complex electrochemical systems. As part of the CELScan™ development process, data is often generated in the field on systems that are either in operation or under test. Various advanced classification, pattern recognition and machine-learning methods are employed in conjunction with data mining techniques to understand and model the relationships and correlations for real-world situations. These algorithms are then coded into the firmware sitting on the Interrogator™ for immediate deployment and use in the field.
